Cement trucks banned from Fahd Causeway PDF Print E-mail

September 22, 2009

Saudi Arabia is set to issue a ban on transporting cement and sand to Bahrain via the King Fahd Causeway in an effort to ease traffic congestion, Saudi Gazette has reported.

The move, expected to be implemented from October 1, is expected to lead to the absence of more than 200 trucks a day. The decision would not affect Bahrain's construction industry, as the entire amount of 25,000 tonnes weekly quota would still be transported via the sea route between the two countries.

The decision would not affect Bahrain's construction industry because the entire amount of 25,000 tons weekly quota would still come in by the sea route. Only 10,000 tonnes were coming in through the causeway.

The causeway connects Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Construction of the bridge started during 1968 and continued until 1986, when it was officially opened to the public.
