Two Nakheel employees have been formally charged with fraud
after spending six months in jail without charge, according to media
reports.
Matt Joyce, managing director of the Dubai
Waterfront development, and his colleague Marcus Lee were arrested on
suspicion of bribery in January.
The Australian pair were
charged with fraud last week but no date had been set for a trial,
according to a report on the website of Australian news network ABC.
Their lawyer, Martin Ahmad, said he was seeking more information about the charges against the pair.
"They both were working for Nakeel, which is a development company in Dubai," he said in the report.
"The allegation is that in their employment they were somehow involved in fraud, the details we don't know yet."
Joyce’s wife and three children were still living in Dubai, while Lee’s wife was also still in the emirate, he said
